mum expired. [EVERYONE]

A friend of mine passed away, and his funeral is tomorrow. I was invited by his wife (whom I have never met) but I can't decide what to do. He and I were inseparable when we were teenagers, but our friendship has been online only since then. Should I go pay my respects, but be around a bunch of people I don't know (which blows because of anxiety) or stay home and remember him with a glass of wine?
